Brazil exported USD 93.4 million worth of leather in June 2026, up 12.1% from USD 83.3 million in the same month last year, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX), compiled by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB). Compared with May 2026, exports also increased by 4.4%.
Export volumes showed similar momentum. Shipments reached 14.6 million square metres and 49.8 thousand tonnes during the month. Compared with June 2025, exported area increased by 9.0%, while exported weight rose 23.7%. Month-on-month, exported area grew 5.3% and exported weight increased 1.0%.
China remained Brazil’s largest export destination, accounting for approximately USD 32.0 million in leather exports, or USD 33.3 million including Hong Kong. The United States ranked second with USD 13.4 million, followed by Vietnam (USD 9.7 million) and Italy (USD 7.6 million). Other key markets included Nigeria (USD 5.1 million), Mexico (USD 4.8 million) and South Korea (USD 3.6 million), while exports to India totalled approximately USD 1.23 million.
Finished leather remained the leading export category, generating USD 42.6 million in revenue. Wet blue exports reached USD 19.8 million, followed by crust leather at USD 12.5 million. Exports of wet blue split amounted to USD 10.9 million, while salted hides contributed around USD 6.1 million.
According to CICB, June marked the strongest month of 2026 so far, with year-on-year growth across export value, shipped area and export weight. However, despite the improved June performance, export results for the first half of 2026 continued to remain below the levels recorded during the same period of 2025.
